Senior Capstone at A.C.B.A.
My senior capstone project was designed and installed in the foyer of the American College of the Building Arts in Charleston, South Carolina.
The Powder Magazine — 1713 brick and masonry
Historic brick and masonry work on Charleston’s Powder Magazine, completed in 1713 and the oldest surviving public building in the Carolinas. A National Historic Landmark with three-foot brick walls. Work followed the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards.
Ingleside Plantation — 1817 plaster restoration
Traditional three-coat lime plaster repair on an 1817 Federal house in Iron Station, NC. Work followed the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards. Remediations included extensive crack repair and brick infill from modernization.

45 Laurens Street — Thomas Wallace House
Historic brick pointing, infill, and restoration of the carriage-door arch on the c. 1804 Thomas Wallace House at 45 Laurens Street in Charleston’s Ansonborough neighborhood. Work followed the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards.

Fort Delaware Brick Gutter restoration
Excavated and reinstalled the original brick gutter at Fort Delaware so stormwater could drain again and stop flooding the site. Historic brick was reused. Work followed the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards.

Rockwell House — 1838 plaster restoration
Plaster repair to walls, ceilings, mantels and ornamental cornices on the 1838 Samuel Rockwell House in Milledgeville, GA, a National Register property and former summer home of a Georgia governor. Work followed the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards.

EXTERIOR LIME STUCCO — JOHNS ISLAND, SC
Exterior lime stucco on a house on Johns Island, South Carolina.
Rotunda at ACBA
Pineapple ornamental pieces were added to the rotunda at ACBA in honor of the Pineapple Fountain in Charleston, South Carolina.
Ceiling medallion
A ceiling medallion was run and installed in a private residence in downtown Charleston, South Carolina. The last two photos show an original piece and the seal applied later.
JOHNS ISLAND HOUSE — 1940s PLASTER REPAIR
A 1940s house on Johns Island, South Carolina. Water damage below a window and ceiling cracks from second-floor movement were repaired.
CUSTOM MOLD MAKING — HYDE PARK, LONG ISLAND, NY
Custom plaster molds made during a summer internship at Hyde Park on Long Island. The studio is one of New York’s leading plaster houses. That is where the mold-making on this page was learned and done.
42½ Charlotte Street — mock-up walls and boxes
Mock-up walls and sample boxes built so the client could choose brick for a new house in Charleston, South Carolina.
Material sourcing
Hand-made king-size brick from Gold Hill, North Carolina, restacked, tagged, and palletized for shipping to the Charlotte Street job.
Wall end cap of brick
End cap on a serpentine brick wall at a private house in downtown Charleston. The wall had been left unfinished; brick was added later to close it out.
Steel lintel
A crawl-space door had been cut in with no lintel. A steel lintel was installed and the surrounding brick was pointed.
WINDOW INFILL
The client had removed a window that formerly sat in the shower. The opening was insulated and closed with new CMU.
